Marketing Outreach Assistant

Company

Greystar

Overview

Our daily routine involves managing emails, returning phone calls, conducting tours of our model unit, and crafting social media posts to meet company targets. Our overarching objective is to encourage students to lease apartments in our high-rise building.

Assigned to host an outreach event, I drew inspiration from our campus event, Maker's Fair and successfully implemented The Accoalde’s first annual Maker's Fair. The event featured 15 student vendors, attracted over 150 attendees, and I was able to execute the event within a $2,000 budget. The connection developed between student makers and community members highlighted the power of community engagement.

Lesson Learned

Cold calling was not my preferred method of outreach. However, in the course of my responsibilities, I found myself tasked with leaving detailed and upbeat voicemails to prospective contacts. Despite any initial reservations, I discovered that I naturally connected with our prospects, particularly since many of them were University of Washington students. This shared background facilitated rapport-building and eased the process of engaging with them, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of our communications.

Through this experience, I discovered my aptitude for project management. I was entrusted with managing a budget for purchasing decorations, catering food and beverages, and planning for an activation. This role required meticulous time management, as I had to coordinate tasks around varying vendor response times to ensure timely completion.

Additionally, I honed my skills in customer service through handling a range of phone inquiries, from answering general questions to addressing concerns and resolving issues. I became proficient in cold calling and successfully boosted tour attendance rates through effective engagement strategies. Ultimately, this experience served as a valuable learning opportunity, helping me realize that a career in leasing was not aligned with my long-term aspirations.

I dedicated part-time hours to acquire professional experience as a Marketing Outreach Assistant with The Accolade.
