King County Play Equity Coalition

Overview

My role centers on crafting comprehensive social media campaigns for upcoming events, legislation, and broader initiatives. I've successfully developed captivating graphic series showcasing bike trails, parks, coalition partners, and various play spaces across King County. The enthusiastic engagement from our followers, evident through reposts on Instagram stories, underscores the value of our informative and interactive content. Ultimately, by fostering increased engagement in play, we strive to enhance the physical and socio-emotional well-being of youth in our community.

Moreover, I maintain communication with coalition partners and take proactive steps to identify upcoming events and programs worth highlighting, ensuring accessible opportunities for our audience.

- Facilitating effective member-to-member communication and collaboration.

Self-development
Engaging in continuous self-improvement by actively acquiring knowledge about current legislation, expanding vocabulary, and familiarizing oneself with new methods for advocating positive social change within the workspace.

Providing feedback
Offering constructive feedback to members of the Youth Action Team regarding the effectiveness and impact of their graphic posts, with the aim of enhancing communication and outreach strategies.

Creating change
Championing the cause of equity by advocating for equal access to play opportunities for all children, thereby striving to create a more inclusive and fair society.

Lesson Learned

Working remotely further compounded the difficulty of fostering connections with our staff members. However, drawing upon insights gained from my coursework, I adopted a proactive approach, actively seeking opportunities to immerse myself in learning experiences and offering assistance wherever possible. This enabled me to navigate obstacles and contribute meaningfully to our collective objectives.

The King County Pay Equity Coalition (KCPEC) is committed to tackling obstacles and policies that impede youth and communities from engaging in play. Recognizing the long-term benefits of sustained play for young people, including improved academic performance, lifelong physical activity habits, reduced obesity rates, and higher college attendance rates, among others, we aim to break down barriers and promote inclusive participation.
