Neurological Vocational Services Unit

Overview

As a Marketing Assistant with the Neurological Vocational Services Unit at UW Medicine, I immerse myself in the professional landscape of neurological conditions. My role is a blend of tasks: I regularly post reminders on Facebook to keep our community informed about our work, design program pamphlets for our two main annual events, and manage our monthly newsletter. This involves not only printing and hand-folding the newsletters but also applying labels for mailing and creating digital versions for email distribution. To enhance my communication skills and better understand the nuances of this specialized field, I completed EDPSY 302. This course equipped me with the language intricacies essential for effective communication in our workspace, laying a solid foundation for my growth as a resilient and proficient professional.

Task Accomplished

-Expertly create and distribute event promotional emails and seasonal newsletters using Mailchimp monethy
-Manage event attendance and ticketing operations efficiently through Eventbrite
-Generate and publish annual reports showcasing organizations key achievements and milestones
-Coordinate and successfully host two annual events: Cheers for Career and Spring Gala
-Notably raised an impressive total of $67,759.58 during Spring Gala 2023

Leadership Competencies Gained

Plan
I undertook the task of strategizing our email approach, ensuring friendly reminders about events without inundating recipients' inboxes. This required careful consideration, especially given the variety of emails we manage, including newsletters, annual reports, job club updates, and more.

Synthesis
A key aspect of my role involved synthesizing diverse information and organizing it within our company software and drive to establish official records. This entailed meticulous categorization and storage to ensure easy retrieval and maintenance of accurate documentation.

Research
I dedicated time to conducting research on the functionalities of our gala software, particularly concerning the management of raffle items and the live raffle event. This endeavor was crucial for maximizing the effectiveness of our fundraising efforts and ensuring smooth execution during the gala event.

Lesson Learned

I discovered the diverse audience we serve, including current members, sponsors, and professionals within our field. This realization highlighted the importance of tailoring our communication to meet the specific needs and preferences of each group. It became evident that different language and graphics are required to effectively disseminate information to these varied audiences. Additionally, when targeting an older audience, I learned the significance of using a minimum font size of 14 points to ensure readability and accessibility.
